OLD Introduction to Public Health (CC1.d)


Description
This course will provide students with the definition of public health practice; foundational knowledge of public health’s historical contributions; the ethical bases; key terms and concepts; system organization; and the social determinants of health that contribute to specific individual and community health outcomes.


Course Topics:

1) Public Health Definition and Key terms
2) History of Public Health
3) The use of disease surveillance to control and prevent disease
4) Public Health Ethics
5) Social Determinants of Health
6) Health Literacy

Course Objectives:
1) The CHW student will understand basic public health principles
2) The CHW student will describe key features of the historical development of public health, including the most important achievements of public health.
3) The CHW student will understand the social determinants of health and related disparities
