OLD Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CC2.c)


Description
We need culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) to help eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities and improve the health of our population. CLAS training helps healthcare organizations and providers by giving them a framework to implement services and create organizational structures that are culturally and linguistically friendly. This course provides CHW students with a comprehensive introduction to CLAS and outlines its relevance in Arizona.

Course Topics:
1) What is CLAS
2) Population of Arizona
3) At-Risk Communities and health disparities
4) CLAS Interpreter Scenarios
5) National Standards for CLAS
6) Cultural Aspects of CLAS

Learning Objectives:
1) The CHW student will learn how to communicate using plain and clear language
2) The CHW student will learn how to communicate with empathy
3) The CHW student will learn how to communicate with the community served
4) The CHW student will understand how to practice cultural humility
5) The CHW student will understand how to plan and conduct classes and presentations for a variety of groups
6) The CHW student will learn about pertinent health issues
7) The CHW student will learn about the community served
8) The CHW student will understand the social determinants of health and related disparities
