*CHW Core Competencies (CC1.b)

Description: The Community Health Worker Core Consensus (C3) Project was a collaborative effort by multiple state and local community health worker stakeholders to define a set of common roles and core competencies for the profession. The ten foundational competencies proposed by the C3 Project are used to set the expectations for all community health workers in Arizona. This course combines an interactive group activity, lecture, and self-reflection exercise to familiarize students with community health worker core competencies. In addition, students will learn about the CHW roles and qualities proposed by the C3 Project. The class will participate in a self-reflection assignment that requires student to identify which core competencies they feel comfortable with and which they want to strengthen. By the end of the course, students will understand how to use the community health worker core competencies to direct their professional development.
